About Jerusalem
Located in the Judean Mountains, Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world, home to an abundance of significant religious history. It’s considered to be the cultural, spiritual, and national center of the Jewish people and Jewish state, but it’s also a holy city to Islam and Christianity. Known as the City of Gold in Hebrew, Jerusalem is a fascinating blend of the 1st and 21st centuries, with picturesque neighborhoods backdropped against glittering office towers and apartment buildings.
Jerusalem is home to many religious icons, such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre that contains two of the holiest sites in Christianity: the site where Jesus was Crucified, called the Calvary, and the tomb where he was reportedly buried and resurrected. The Western Wall is also in Jerusalem, an ancient site for those of the Jewish faith to pray, and the city also houses the alleged burial place of the Virgin Mary. Other attractions include the Holocaust memorial museum Yad Vashem and the Rockefeller Museum of archaeology.
